Munro surveys the threefold division of the ancient mind—simple apprehension, judgment, and reasoning—along with the terminology of terms, syncategorematic forms, and decomplex terms. It proceeds to abstraction and generalisation, the predicables (genus, species, differentia, proprium, accidens), the five predicables, and the Porphyrian Tree; then extension and comprehension, definition, division, distribution of terms, and the modes of proposition (categorical, modal).
