Rich with plate illustrations, the work surveys a wide range of genera and species, including Helianthus (sunflowers), Chrysanthemum, Conyza, Xeranthemum, Solidago, Erigeron, Achillea, and many others, and it introduces an artificial index and a natural system of arrangement intended to illuminate plant relationships. The volume combines morphological descriptions of leaves, cups, and rays with systematic keys, and discussions of cultivation and practical use. It epitomizes late 18th?century botany’s interest in classification, plant anatomy, and the early development of taxonomy.
