Elements Of Geometry by Adrien Marie Legendre. Elements Of Geometry is a foundational English translation of Legendre's French geometry treatise, presented in the Euclidean idiom of definitions, axioms, and propositions. The work surveys the whole field of geometry, from plane figures to solids and then to the circle and the measure of angles, before advancing to the proportions of figures, regular polygons, and the measure of the circle. It then proceeds to the geometry of solids, including polyhedrons, spheres, cones, cylinders, and their volumes, with detailed discussion of lateral surface areas and volumes. The later sections cover spherical geometry, isoperimetric problems, and the five regular polyhedrons, with appendices and constructive problems. The translation, by John Farrar, emphasizes a rigorous, synthetic approach inspired by Euclid, and includes explanatory notes and problems that guide students through demonstrations, measurements, and geometric constructions across plane, solid, and spherical contexts.
