TH E Reverend and Learned Dr Clarke in, pag. 17. of his Introduction to his Scripture-doctrin of the Trinity tells us, that in reference to the said Doctrin, "He has in the First part of the following Treatise "(that it might appear what was, not the Sound "of single Texts which may be easily mistaken, "but the Whole Tenour of Scripture) collected "ALL the Texts that relate to that matter." Now upon reading these Words of the Dr. viz. that to make appear, What was the Whole Tenour of Scripture concerning the Doctrin of the Trinity, He had colleUed ALL the Texts that relate to thap matter, might not one have Reasonably expected, that the Dr had collected the Texts of the Old as well as New Testament, relating to the said Doctrin? For is not the Old Testament a part of. A Scripture, Scripture, as well as the Nero? And therefore » it not Evident at the very First sight, that, in order to have render'd his Performance answerable to the Title he gives his Book; in order to have made it appear Truly, what was the Whole Tenour of Scripture, he ought (according to his Method ) to have collected All the Texts (not of one Part only, but) of the Whole Scripture, that relate to the Trinity. At least the Dr ought not to have contented himself with doing No more than in the Titlepage, under the Specious general Title of The Scripture doctrin of the Trinity', subjoining by way of' Restriction to the said General Title these words, viz. Wherein ALL the Texts in the NEW TESTAMENT relating to that Doclrin--are collected (3c.
