The first dissertation argues for a rational, historically informed interpretation of the Tree of Life narrative, surveying competing readings—immortality conferred by eating the fruit, sacramental signs, or symbolic life—and defending a view that preserves Scriptural clarity while acknowledging orthodox commentary from patristic and later theologians. It traces Creation, the Garden of Eden, the Fall, and expulsion, and concludes that the Tree of Life’s effect could be understood as signifying life bestowed by God, rather than an inherent, unconditioned immortality. The second dissertation analyzes the Biblical account of Cain’s and Abel’s offerings, arguing that Abel’s sacrifice was an animal offering paired with the first-fruits, while Cain’s was an offer of the fruits of the ground; it discusses the possible motives, the role of faith, and the divine acceptance of Abel’s rite.
