Synopsis
Vincenzo: Or, Sunken Rocks by Giovanni Ruffini follows Vincenzo Candia, the son of a peasant and ward of the generous Signor Avvocato in Rumelli, Piedmont, during the revolutionary years around 1848. With the help of mentors like Don Natale, Signor Onofrio, and his steadfast godfather, he pursues education in law, rises through official channels, and ultimately marries Rose. Across landscapes of Rumelli, Ibella, Turin, and Florence, the book traces a transition from old order to modern nationhood.
