Synopsis

Collections by Malone Society. This scholarly volume assembles editorial material and primary dramatic texts from the margins of medieval and early modern English drama. The work is the Malone Society Collections Part II, continuing the first part with notes on the Society’s publications, rules for editors, and a corpus of dramatic texts and documentary material. It includes Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham, a dramatic fragment from circa 1475; A Play of Robin Hood for May-Games (Copland edition, circa 1560); The Play of Lucrece, a fragmentary interlude (ca. 1530); and a substantial section of Dramatic Records from the Lansdowne Manuscripts, with critical discussion of authorship and attributions (Selimus, Locrine) and the interrelations of Greene, Peele, and other early dramatists. The volume also presents the Rules for the Guidance of Editors, a detailed framework for textual fidelity and scholarly apparatus in reprints. Together, these contents illuminate the practice, transmission, and reception of English drama prior to Shakespeare, including editorial methods and archival materials that underpin modern scholarship.
