Nature has gone wrong.
When Caro Hardin returns to the isolated North Country, as she'd vowed she never would, the friend she's come to rescue has vanished. All that remains is an uncannily cool July - and the grown man version of her high school crush, the man she hopes to rely on.
Under ordinary circumstances, all Mike Schaeffer would want is to rekindle his romance with Caro. But now a murderer is their midst and Caro could be the deranged madman's next victim.
A single kiss, shared by Mike and Caro years ago, offers hope. But, while they struggle to illuminate the dark recesses of the murderer's mind, even the power of love begins to falter.
It looks like Mike and Caro won't survive this old summer... or the even colder killer.

THRILLING EXCERPT.
Caro gazed at the body.
"This could be a pattern killer," she said.
"This could be a major crime scene," Mike answered. "And you are a civilian. You shouldn't be here."
"I run a psychological counseling center." Caro sounded as cool as he did skeptical. "The police consult us about pattern killers."
"Look, Caro. I really can't talk now. Let's get together later."
"I can see you're busy," she said. "Unfortunately, I think I'll be just as busy later."
Before he could respond, she was headed down the embankment, holding her head admirably high. Was he allowing his only chance to get away? What if she could profile the killer for him?
