About the Author:
Susan is the author of The Pumpkin Seed Massacre and Yellow Lies, the first Ben Pecos mysteries. She's a technical writer/trainer in Albuquerque where she lives with her husband.

In Slater's latest Ben Pecos mystery, the part-Pueblo psychologist turns center stage over to Native American police officer Tommy Spottedhorse. When a UFO is spotted in Gallup, New Mexico, no one is too surprised. (Thanks to Roswell, New Mexico is a favorite tourist spot for aliens.) A level of intrigue is added, however, because the UFO incident is accompanied by gruesome livestock mutilations and the disappearance of Brenda Begay, whom Tommy was about to start dating. When the crashed UFO turns out to be an army Stealth plane, the plot thickens still further. Slater effectively develops the mystery elements of her story, and she incorporates a compelling subplot involving the generation gap felt by some Native American young people and their non-English-speaking parents who believe in the old ways.
