Review:
In a wonderful debut novel, Shari Anton brings to life the Civil War. Emily is used to being on her own. Her father's convictions took him away from his southern home to join the northern side of the war. Her brother and her fiancé both left her behind and now the townspeople whisper about her and accuse her of being a spy. The Yankees are heading for Adairsville and she has to leave before someone tries to steal her prized thoroughbred Rusty. She intends to go to her family's country estate, but then Lieutenant Jared Randall shows up and offers to escort her. In fact, he won't seem to leave her even after she insists she doesn't need his help! Captain Jared Randall Hunter is a Union officer masquerading as a Confederate lieutenant. As the Union spy known as Cougar, he is feared and hated by the Rebs, revered and respected by the Yankees. Many of his missions are dangerous, but once in awhile he gets an easy assignment. Like escorting the daughter of his commanding officer from Georgia to the Union capitol of Washington. Only problem is, she can't know who he is or where they're going. Emily Gardener proves to be the most difficult-- and rewarding-- assignment of Jared's life. Shari Anton is a gifted new voice in historical romance. She captures the past vividly, recreating the powerful emotions and turbulent times of the era. Jared and Emily are delightful, and their relationship blossoms through shared experience. It is a passionate, satisfying love story and this reviewer, for one, cannot wait to read Ms. Anton's next offering!Don't miss talented new author Shari Anton! She is a talent in the making! Shari Anton does a splendid job of recreating the past... readers will be thrilled with her passionate characters and richly textured historical settings! Historical romance just got better-thanks to Shari Anton!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times
