Synopsis
In Lanford Wilson's masterful play Fifth of July, part of the Talley Trilogy, a group of friends who came of age in the sixties have a reunion in an old Missouri farmhouse, where their reminiscences reveal shattered hopes, buried resentments, lost dreams, and the unhealed trauma of the Vietnam War.

About the Author
Lanford Wilson (1937-2011) was born in Lebanon, Missouri, and attended the University of Chicago. A founding member of the Circle Repertory Company in New York, he has seen many of his plays produced in theaters all over the United States and abroad. His work includes Angel's Fall, Burn This, Lemon Sky, and many more. He is the recipient of many awards, including a Drama Desk Vernon Rice Award, the Pulitzer Prize, and two Obies.

Without scenery and the physical expressions of the actors, the time-specific setting of this play prevents an easy transition from staged performance to recording. Without the props and set to support the tone, the characters do not fully develop. Wilson's characters are hard to like, making the character of Gwen excessively shrill when there is nothing but her voice to express her motivations. Area microphones on the stage rather than body microphones on the actors create an uneven volume. Lines delivered off-stage are excessively muted.
