Merlin the Magician is in trouble, and Jack and Annie must help him by traveling to ancient Japan to discover the four secrets of happiness. Along the way, they eat sushi, watch sumo wrestlers, meet a great poet, are pursued by samurai warriors, and generally entertain listeners with vivid details of Japans past. Author Pope Osborne reads the story, creating distinct and recognizable voices for her main characters. Jacks is boyish and enthusiastic while Annies is high-pitched and girlish. Pope Osborne narrates at a pace that allows her verbal details--including especially beautiful images of Japan--to unfold in listeners imaginations. Children will welcome this pleasing entry in an enjoyable series. J.C.G. © AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
