Essays discuss Sakharov, Soviet dissidents, the Russian government, peace prospects, nuclear disarmament, and the disappearance of the Sakharovs
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
This anthology collects some of the briefer writings and recent letters of the famous Soviet physicist and human rights activist, along with a variety of essays about him by fellow emigres, scientists, and journalists. Almost half the selections originally appeared in periodicals or books such as the similar collection, On Sakharov ( LJ 12/1/82). This compilation suffers from some redundancy, and the presentation lacks any apparent structure. A few contributions update reports on the condition of Sakharov and his wife in internal exile. Of dubious value for libraries that already own On Sakharov and Sakharov's Alarm and Hope (LJ 1/1/79), My Country and the World ( LJ 2/15/76), and Sakharov Speaks (Collins, 1974). James R. Kuhlman, Univ. of Georgia Lib., Athens
