There is nothing new about this diet except that it is specifically designed for two peopleand therein lies its appeal. The premise is that mutual support is the key to dieting success. The Couples' Diet promises a 10 to 14 lb. weight loss in 14 days through a balanced three meals-a-day diet totaling 800 calories with a vitamin supplement, and daily aerobic exercise. A maintenance diet is also included; it is essentially the 14-day diet with greater latitude. Principles, techniques, and the benefits of weight loss are all discussed. The mutual self-help aspects of this program and its generally sensible approach are marred by the level of calorie consumption permitted, which, according to current medical opinion, is exceedingly low.
