Betty Ford's autobiography ( The Times of My Life ) was in press when daughter Susan arranged the intervention that saved her life. While a chapter was appended to the first book, Mrs. Ford here offers a much more detailed description of her treatment for addiction to prescription drugs and alcohol, as well as an account of her first seven years of recovery. The joy and enthusiasm with which she discusses her activities and projects testify to the benefits of sobriety. Many people contribute to the story: family members, professionals, and friends. Though the result is sometimes confused, and people appear with all their imperfections, this is part of the down-to-earth approach readers appreciate about Mrs. Ford.
