PreSchool-Grade 2-- Softly colored illustrations and quiet action set the tone for this brief book about farm animals. The text begins with a farmer doing the early morning chores. Cows and milk production are briefly described. Several chapters dealing with sheep and lambs are interspersed at random among the chapters on cats, colts, chicks, ducks, and geese. The final chapters touch on harvesting, winter, and seasons. The text, consisting of one or two short paragraphs per page, is at about second-grade reading level. However, the book is more likely to have wider appeal to preschool children because of its illustrations. Information is brief, but adequate for this level. Readers may notice some terms that will vary from one section of the country to another.
