From Library Journal:
Texas rancher and renowned gunfighter Tom English travels in search of his enemy, Julian Haynes, who murdered five of Tom's ranch hands. His mission is interrupted when Tom rides into Frisco, New Mexico just in time to fight alongside Elfego Baca, a young Mexican wearing a mail-order tin star who is determined to become lawman of the wild town. Based on actual historical events, Baca's 36-hour standoff against 80 men provides a dramatic centerpiece to the novel. Tom also falls in with a Shakespeare-quoting patent medicine salesman, Wiley Callan, surely one of the most colorful characters of recent Western fiction. Though his sidekicks are often more fascinating than he is, Tom's journey toward revenge makes for entertaining reading. Tom first appeared in The Meanest Man in West Texas (Doubleday, 1985).
