From the Inside Flap:
witch Drusilla and country witch Constance are flying to the beach on Drusilla's vacuum cleaner. But Constance says she won't have any fun. She does not like the sun, sand, or water. Now it's up to Drusilla to help Constance have fun in the sun!
From School Library Journal:
Grade 1-3?A spirited tale about two witches. Constance has never liked sun, sand, or water?and all of her worst fears are realized when Drusilla drags her off to the ocean. When Constance falls asleep, Drusilla covers her in sand to protect her from the sun, then digs a ditch to wash away the sand when she falls asleep again and, finally, while she snoozes for the third time, uses a vacuum cleaner to whoosh the water away. A lifeguard rescues the sleeping sorceress twice but can't help her the third time because his bathing suit was vacuumed up with the sand. Modestly, he stays in the water, with his nose covered in zinc ointment, shouting, "I am NOT glad you came!" However, by this time Constance thinks the beach is a pretty neat place. Readers will howl with glee while reading these four zesty chapters. This transitional chapter book has all the right elements: short sentences with lots of repetition, a large typeface surrounded by plenty of white space to give beginning readers' eyes a rest, and simple vocabulary. Marvelous visual clues in the watercolor and pen-and-ink illustrations can be found on every page. Kids will love this one.?Suzanne Hawley, Laurel Oak Elementary School, Naples, FL
