PreSchool-Grade 1-Poor Blue Kangaroo can't get a break. After Lily assures him that she will always love him in I Love You, Blue Kangaroo (1999) and he overcomes abandonment issues in Where Are You, Blue Kangaroo? (2001, both Doubleday), he is now blamed for all the child's mischievous acts. She leaves the sink running until it overflows, she dresses her cat (who gets very upset by it all), and makes her baby brother scream. Through it all, she blames her stuffed toy. Her mother then takes him away and sends her daughter to bed without him. In the end, the marsupial comes up with a plan that allows all to be forgiven and the best friends to be reunited. Clark's ever-expressive spreads filled with boldly hued watercolors aptly depict the plight of the kangaroo. This book definitely has the possibility of opening up a discussion between parents and their children on many issues, especially about bad behavior and the importance of telling the truth.

Clark's bright, clear pictures with lots of red and blue capture the slapstick, and preschoolers will love the scenes of chaotic disobedience.
