Synopsis
This text is directed at the social science student who is hoping to read the literature critically and with understanding, or wants to conduct research in the general social science area, or both. Since it is common practice for reviewers of prospective journal publications to examine the statistical handling of data, it is therefore true that the large majority of published papers contain one or more references to statistical analyses. From the reader's point of view, an accurate understanding of an experimental report is critically dependent upon an understanding of the statistical analysis conducted by the author of the paper.
