This book was written mainly for Asian scholars, whose libraries often do not have the necessary documentation, and there are also many who do not read French or German. But, paradoxically, this book will also be useful for European prehistorians. Dr. Bhatttacharya spent a whole year in Central Europe and has a first hand knowledge of collections and sites that many western prehistorians have never visited. Successively, Dr. Bhattacharya examines the Lower Palaeolithic, the Middle Palaeolithic and the Upper Palaeolitic of Europe. Whenever possible, he gives the geological setting, the stratigraphical sequence, the nature of the industries and the usually accepted interpretation.
