About the Author
Barbara Russano Hanning is professor of music and chair of the music department at the City College of New York, where she has taught for many years. Among her publications are Of Poetry and Music's Power: Humanism and the Creation of Opera (1980) and Musical Humanism and Its Legacy (1992, co-editor).
