Includes notes, select bibliography, references and index. A proposed three volume biography, this was the only one published. Chateaubriand was a high noble, was present at the French Revolution, left Europe in despair, to travel the back countries of America. It was a solo journey of 3,500 miles which eventually gave rise to the books which first made him a legend. He returned to fight for his king (on the losing side), escaped, dangerously ill, to England. All this by age 24. Very well-written, nice copy, 327 pp. Seller Inventory # 005022
