About the Author

Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick founded the Camp Fire Girls in 1910, along with his wife and a small gorup of educators. A sister organization to the Boy Scouts of America, the Camp Fire Girls were incorprated in 1912. Gulick, an advocate of physical fitness for young people, also had a role in helping found the Boy Scouts of America and played an importatnt part in the early development of the YMCA.
