About the Author
JOSEPH VINCENT PATERNO (1926-2012) was an American college football coach who was the head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions for nearly forty-six years. He coached five undefeated teams that won major bowl games and, in 2007, was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach.
BERNARD ASBELL (1923-2001) was a biographer, a journalist, and an associate professor of English at Pennsylvania State University, teaching nonfiction writing from 1984 until his retirement in 1992. He was the author of twelve books and approximately two hundred nonfiction articles for national publications. He was a past president of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and was named its Author of the Year in 1996 for his book The Pill: A Biography of the Drug That Changed the World.
