From School Library Journal:

Gr 3-5 The team of Glimringle the elf, Fuzzbow the hare, and Zom the green forest cat, in the company of Shilly Shally, Glim's jumbo racing snail, sets off to rescue elfdom's favorite unicorn from the clutches of the gubgoblins and their chief, Baggy Barg. With the help of a magical web extracted from Zenthora the spider witch and also a host of little folk, and after some fast- paced action, they succeed in bringing the unicorn home. The paintings are reminiscent of the work of the broth ers Hildebrandt in style, in color, and in the realistic treatment of fantastic elements. The product of a Lucasfilms special-effects man, they have a defi nite cinematic feeling. So does the text, which was designed to accompa ny the pictures. Places that would be cutaways in a movie are seams in a book narrative, and they show here. The focus shifts so it's difficult to know who the lead is, and the mock- epic voice doesn't really come off, while the number of exclamation points is staggering. The hare of the text is a lop-ear in the pictures; the gubs seem like Cookie Monsters run amok in their speech and actions, and the unicorn bears a faint resemblance to a goat. Forget this one. From Publishers Weekly:
When evil Baggy Barg, chief of the Gubgoblins, captures the lovely unicorn Elsari, all the good elves, fairies and woodland creatures of Glenelendale rally to rescue their friend. Led by the canny old elf Glim, Elsari's rescuers include irascible Zom, an emerald green forest cat; Fuzzbow, the timid yet valiant hare; Glim's racing snail Shilly Shally; and the magnificent luna moth Moonwing. The companions must venture into the dangerous realm of the wily Spider Queen Zenthora in order to trick her into spinning a magic web to use against the Gubgoblins. Armed with the web and accompanied by a band of little folk, the friends go forth to set Elsari free. This is a satisfying, old-fashioned magical adventure, in the best fantasy tradition. The lush, detailed paintings are a dazzling blend of magnificent, lifelike forest scenes and sparkling enchantment. Ages 5-10.
