About the Author
James Marshall (1942 1992) created dozens of exuberant and captivating books for children, including The Stupids, Miss Nelson Is Missing!, and the ever-popular George and Martha books. Before creating his canon of classic, hilarious children’s books, James Marshall played the viola, studied French, and received a master’s degree from Trinity College. He also doodled. It was the doodles, and the unforgettable characters that emerged from them, that led him to his life’s work as one of the finest creators of children’s books of the twentieth century. In 2007, James Marshall was posthumously awarded the Laura Ingalls Wilder medal for his lasting contribution to literature for children.

Kindergarten-Grade 2 Emily the overindulgent pig is at it again, eating her way into and out of predicaments in this sequel to Yummers! (Houghton, 1973). In this new episode, Emily is forced to take on a series of jobs to pay off debts incurred through her always voracious appetite. "I lost control," she explains after eating all of the honey-dipped papaya, an entire supply of frozen yogurt, six cans of ginseng pop, and several carob bars while minding Healthy Harriet's Health Food Store. The colorful watercolor cartoon illustrations are unmistakably Marshall and are really very funny. They are, in fact, largely responsible for any chuckles produced by this light-weight story. While lacking the charm and warm messages of friendship found in his "George and Martha" stories (Houghton), Yummers Too is a funny sequel and will not disappoint Marshall's many fans.
