Jeri, while exploring ruins for evidence of past Mayan inhabitants, is pushed off a cliff by a horned and fanged creature. Although islanders often tell stories of strange noises and demon ships, Jeri and Ben suspect more than superstition and find their lives in danger when they uncover a smuggling operation involving stolen Mayan art treasures. Their knowledge of scuba diving provides their key to freedom. An authentic setting, a hint of the occult, well-paced action, and a touch of romance make this mystery a page turner and help to compensate for the sometimes awkward writing.
