About the Authors

America's best-known malacologist, R. Tucker Abbott has written more than 30 books. He has been curator of mollusks at the Smithsonian Institution, the Academy of Natural Sciences, and the Delaware Museum of Natural History. He is the founding director of the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum in Sanibel, Florida.

Percy Morris was a conchologist at the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University for 40 years and wrote many natural history books, including the Peterson Field Guides to shells of both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

Roger Tory Peterson, one of the world's greatest naturalists, received every major award for ornithology, natural science, and conservation, as well as numerous honorary degrees, medals, and citations, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
