Linda and her family try to teach Polly the parrot to speak by telling him nursery rhymes
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
PreSchool-Grade 1-- A family tries to get its new parrot to talk by teaching it eight common nursery rhymes. In the end, the parrot mixes them up in a hodge-podge rhyme. The plot in this rhymed picture book is beyond banal and predictable, and the illustrations are garish and trite. The book's best features are the endpapers, which present the text of the abused nursery rhymes with energetic, if stereotyped, illustrations. The book deserves, to quote Mother Goose, to be "tossed in a basket/ seventeen times as high as the moon." --Kathleen Whalin, Public Library of Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio
