Synopsis
The acute problem protocols developed for this book are based on the most common presenting complaints seen in this setting, while the chronic disease protocols include those conditions most often followed by the nurse practitioner in a continuing care clinic. We have attempted to define an appropriate data base for the common acute problems as well as the chronic illnesses which the nurse practitioners may be managing. The protocol material is presented in a problem-oriented framework, outlining the subjective and objective data, detailing some of the more common conditions causing a given presenting complaint and including diagnostic therapeutic and patient education aspects of the plan.
