Review
In the winter of 1946, a teenage Bedouin shepherd, familiar with ancient artifacts discovered previously in the area, purposefully threw a rock into a cliff-side cave. The resultant shatter of a pot containing the Dead Sea Scrolls has echoed through Christianity and Judaism ever since. What happened to the scrolls after their discovery? Who bought them? Who studied them? And, most importantly, why did almost 50 years elapse before their contents were fully revealed to the world? Neil Asher Silberman's The Hidden Scrolls details the history of the scrolls, the researchers who built careers on exclusive access to them, and the struggle that culminated in their being fully disclosed only just recently.
