Grade 1-4 Absolutely superb color photos , with a sentence or two at the beginning of each section, and an additional sentence (or two) accompanying each eye-catching photo, describe animals that use color for camouflage. A three-page supplement on a higher reading level presents a few extra facts about each colorful critter. Depicted are those that use color to warn of poison or nasty flavors; look-alikes; and great pretenders, flashers, and bluffers. It's unfortunate that there's no introductory paragraph informing young readers that poisonous or bad tasting beasts not only can afford to flaunt bright colors, but indeed need to advertise (a distinct survival factor).
