PreSchool-K-- Elephant, playing in the snow with his friends, wants to find the elephant tree. The band of friends search and search, but each tree they find is the wrong one. "Is this the elephant tree?" "No," say the bears. "This is the bear tree." "No," say the monkeys. "This is the monkey tree." And so on, until the friends find that they can fashion their own elephant tree. The end result, a tree of twigs, scarves, and mittens, may not be a grand tree, but it is a fitting one. This imaginative tale, quite simply told, is enhanced by soft watercolors and an interesting mix of children and Pooh-like stuffed animals. Attractive endpapers and a well-balanced blend of picture sizes and shapes add to the visual appeal. A lapbook, and useful for collections that support toddler programs. --Gail C.
