Synopsis
Wanting to have a big celebration for his tenth birthday, friendless Charley invites all his classmates in the hopes of changing his luck, but when the class bully attends, the garage goes on fire, and the cake is destroyed, Charley must do something quick in order to stop his big event from becoming the biggest social debacle of the year.

About the Author
Dean Pitchford wrote the lyrics for the hit movie Fame, for which he won an Oscar, as well as the lyrics and screenplay for Footloose. The Big One-Oh is his first novel. He lives in Los Angeles, California.

Charley plans to remedy the situation by hosting a house-of-horrors celebration for his big łone-oh.˛ Dean Pitchford is perfectly convincing as a 9-year-old. Pitchford hams up the unfairness of school with a boyish voice, and he even whoops and hollers during the scary parts. With fake body parts and squishy eyeballs, Pitchford swaggers through a hyperbolic tale of birthday mayhem. One might accuse him of overacting except that his pleasure in the story is so contagious.
