From Library Journal:
Glass, a Los Angeles speech pathologist, has written a helpful book for people who have difficulty finding the right things to say. This is not a how-to book on speaking before groups; it is about communicating one-to-one with others. Talking to the boss or to strangers at a party can be nerve-wracking, and Glass gives advice on breathing exercises, facial expression, and physical movements. Barry Farber in Making People Talk ( LJ 6/15/87) gave some of the same advice, but Glass focuses on development of self-esteem and communication skills. The tips on how to talk to handicapped or gravely ill people are useful, as is her list of ways to handle an argument. Good manners, thoughtfulness, and sensitivity are the tenets here. A useful purchase for public libraries.
