A collection of 26 essays presented at an international conference held at Yverdon-les-Bains in 1991 as part of a celebration of Switzerland's 700th anniversary. Contributors reassess the idea of utopia, its history, and especially its role in today's world, examining both traditional thought and new manifestations of the utopian impulse.
