Synopsis

More than eighty years have passed since Stephen Dedalus and Leopold Bloom walked through the streets of Dublin in James Joyce's Ulysses. Houses, shops and streets have changed their names or appearances, or have even vanished completely. Still, every year more and more Joyceans come to Dublin to follow Bloomsday trail and to relate Joyce's text to present and vanished landmarks.

The Ulysses Guide, which follows the eighteen episodes of Ulysses on their original locations, is a companion for those pilgrims, both the student and the casual reader. It is presented as a series of tours covering the different areas of Dublin featured in Ulysses. The book includes maps, detailed directions, summaries of each episode, and information on the 'unnoticed' activity of that original Bloomsday. For good measure it also includes tales and anecdotes and practical information on things like opening hours and bus routes. It may be used equally while on the street or in an armchair, and is an invaluable handbook for Joyceans everywhere.

The author of this vade-mecum has been the Curator of the James Joyce Museum since 1978.
