Synopsis
"The Almanac of British Politics" is a guide to the political map of the United Kingdom, covering in detail each of the 650 constituencies sending representatives to the House of Commons. Now in its fourth edition, it provides a comprehensive seat-by-seat analysis of all the parliamentary constituencies, describing their social, economic and political characteristics. In addition, each profile gives the seat's recent electoral history and looks forward to its prospects at the next General Election. Each profile is also supplemented with statistics defining the electorate by type of housing, occupation and racial grouping. An assessment is made of the 1987 General Election and the constituency profiles included in previous editions have been rewritten to include information on existing MPs and on the candidates likely to become MPs for the first time at the next election.

About the Author
Robert Waller is a former Fellow and Lecturer at Oxford University and is currently Head of Politics and History at Greenacre School, Banstead.
Byron Criddle is Reader in Politics at Aberdeen University.
