About the Author:
Adam Kuper is Professor of Human Sciences at Brunel University. He has taught at universities in Uganda, Britain, Sweden, Holland and the United States. He founded the European Association of Social Anthropologists in 1989 and his most recent books are The Invention of Primitive Society (Routledge, 1988), the edited Conceptualizing Society (Routledge, 1992), and The Chosen Primate (1994).

Its great merit is that it not only describes satisfactorily all major developments in method, theory and controversy, it also gives much biographical and sometimes gossipy information about the persons responsible for those developments.
