This collection of papers is the most comprehensive and international examination of Heidegger's work available. It contains established classic articles, some appearing in English for the first time, and many original pieces provided especially for this collection. The aim of this collection is to critically examine Heidegger's work. It is therefore able to evaluate its limits and strengths, as well as the prospects for the future development of his thinking. The cross-cultural and political aspects of this thought is examined, including his relationship with the Nazi party.

Christopher Macann is Professor of Philosophy at Regents College, London.
This beautifully bound and boxed set places before the reader a huge collection of critical essays on the philosopher widely regarded as this century's preeminent metaphysician. Four volumes contain 66 articles, fully one-quarter of them original contributions. Macann (philosophy, Regents Coll., London) contributed four original essays himself; he has also done yeoman's work in translating many others from German and French, as well as providing lengthy introductions to each volume. Represented here are such prominent Heideggerians as Gadamer, Kockelmans, Macquarrie, and Poeggeler, in addition to other important scholars less well known in the English-speaking world. The majority of the essays are of recent vintage, from the 1980s and 1990s. Their range shows how influential and fecund Heidegger's thought has been, not only in philosophy, phenomenology, and existentialism, but also in language theory, aesthetics, theology, psychology, natural science, and technology. Highly recommended.
