Synopsis

Here is the first comprehensive introduction to Edward Said's literary, political and cultural thinking. Drawing upon Said's journalism as well as his more formal works, Ashcroft and Ahluwalia reveal Said's contemporary significance. While acknowledging the ground breaking significance of Said's Orientalism, this book demonstrates that the key to his work lies in its concept of worldliness and in his demonstration of the paradoxical nature of identity formation in the post-colonial world.
