About the Author
Philip Dwyer is Lecturer in Modern European History at the University of Newcastle in Australia. He is the editor of Napoleon and Empire (2001). Peter McPhee holds a Personal Chair in history at the University of Melbourne. He as published widely on the history of modern France including, A Social History of France, 1780-1880 (1992).
