The first reader to cover the scope of oppressions in America, Readings for Diversity and Social Justice covers six thematic issues: racism, sexism, Anti-Semitism, heterosexism, classism, and ableism. The reader contains a mix of short personal and theoretical essays as well as entries designed to challenge students to take action to end oppressive behavior and to affirm diversity and racial justice.

Review:
PetersCompletely on target! The organization, quality, and thoroughness are impressive....This would be valuable in introductory women's studies, education, and sociology courses.
–Jean O'Barr, co-editor of Women Imagine Change

An invaluable resource for teaching. The range of social differences and injustices covered is comprehensive and the diverse contributions are held together by strong and accessible introductions to each section.
–Stevi Jackson, author of Heterosexuality in Question

A highly readable and thought-provoking collection of theoretical and personal essays....[A] welcome supplement in courses which seek to actively engage students in learning about the barriers to and promises of social justice education.
–Lee Ann Bell, co-editor of Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice

Given that there has been an upsurge of narratives and statistical research on the 'other,' this book successfully combines multiple voices into one comprehensive piece. It is a wonder that so much depth can be covered given its breadth of diversity issues. Moreover, Readings for Diversity and Social Justice provides a very readable introduction to the key terms and conceptual frameworks underlying diversity and social justice. In addition, the book consists of essays that seek not only to inform, but also to empower readers..
–Journal of College Student Development
