Izzy confronts her forty-first birthday by remembering her mother's suicide at that age as she braces for a visit from her father, unstable sister, and her niece, who are flying in to Colorado to help her get through the day--even though she never asked for help. Reprint.

Mother/daughter relationships and suicide are too-common themes in today's body of literature, but Elisabeth Hyde's story is so fresh and inventive that the characters resonate and the dialogue rings in your ears long after you put down the book.
Elisabeth Hyde was born and raised in New Hampshire, and briefly practiced law for the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. In 1982, she took some time off to write her first novel, Her Native Colors, and never looked back. She has been awarded working scholarships to the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, teaches creative writing through artist-in-residence programs, and is also the author of Monsook Valley. She lives in the Rocky Mountains with her family.
