Kindergarten-Grade 2-Through large print and bright photographs, these two books introduce computers to young children. Each two-page spread covers a different aspect of technology. Each double-page chapter offers two paragraphs, two full-color photos, and two captions. While the books include some of the same information, their focuses are different. In All around Us, Drake looks at the wide variety of appliances and objects that use computer microchips, including cars, game consoles, cash registers, CAT-scan machines, and ATMs, as well as the PCs we know and love. Play with Computers focuses on computers for fun-games, graphics, animation, movies, and, of course, the Internet. Bold-faced words in the text are defined in the glossary. While there is not enough information in either book for reports, the large pictures may interest browsers. Don't look for multicultural users, though-these photographs show only a few token nonwhite faces.
