About the Author
David Lodge is Honorary Professor of Modern English Literature at the University of Birmingham, where he taught from 1960 until 1987, when he became a full-time writer. He is well-known as a novelist, and has also written screenplays and stageplays. He edited "2oth Century Literary Criticism "(Longman, 1972) which has become a companion volume to "Modern Criticism and Theory."
Nigel Wood is Professor of Eighteenth-Century Literature at De Montfort University.
Stephen Thorne trained at RADA and played several seasons with the Old Vic Company and the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford and London. He has worked extensively in radio, with over two thousand broadcasts for the BBC, including Uncle Mort in the Radio 4 comedy series and the part of Treebeard in "The Lord of the Rings". His television work includes "EastEnders", "Boys from the Bush", "Death of an Expert Witness", and "David Copperfield".

He never takes a stab at trying to be funny--nor does he wait after delivery for the listener to "get it." The story runs on like life--without an announcement of what is funny or not. Little rises of inflection add to the humor of his matter-of-fact way of reading. The protagonist is recognizably human as he runs from aromatherapy to acupuncture with the need to find the cure for his ills. Reading the book was a delight, and hearing it doubled the pleasure.
