PreSchool-Grade 1-Charming watercolor illustrations are the main draw of this slight story featuring animal characters originally created for a greeting-card line. Suzy Ducken and Emily Marmot love everything about the fall: brisk weather, apples, pumpkins, and, especially, piles of freshly fallen foliage. This year, however, it doesn't seem as though the leaves will ever drop from the trees. The confident youngsters believe they can hurry the process along and devise several plans to do so, but nothing seems to do the trick. Finally, as the friends sing a song designed to encourage the stubborn leaves, a gentle breeze begins to blow. Oblivious to the wind, they take joy in their perceived accomplishment. Done in shades of brown, orange, and red, the sweet pictures have a cozy quality. Throughout the tale, a playful squirrel watches the girls' antics and celebrates their achievement. An additional purchase where more seasonal books are needed.
