In Crystal Mask, the thrilling, chilling sequel to the award-winning Song Quest, a wild girl, a confused Singer boy from the Isle of Echoes, and a horselord prince join forces to fight the evil force of the fabled masked Khiz priest and his minions. Weeks of travel, fraught with mistrust, avalanche and drowning danger, and a devastating growing understanding of the full diabolical power of Khiz, bring each of these children to the Sunless Valley, where a battle in the black crystal palace will determine the fate of all. Packed with blue gemstones, magical "half creatures," humans who wield power through songs, merlee (mermaids), and breathtaking adventure, this complex fantasy will be tremendously appealing to fans of Katherine Roberts's Echorium sequence. For some readers, the many convoluted subplots and unusual names will be difficult to follow, but the taut narrative will hold the attention of those who are willing to hang on for the ride. About the Author
Katherine Roberts was born in 1962 in Torquay, England. She studied math at school, and completed a degree in the subject from the University of Bath. Since then she has worked with racehorses, computers and also spent time working in a pet shop. These days she is an award-winning children’s novelist, and also helps out with an annual Creative Writing Awards Scheme for local schools.
Katherine Roberts cites Ursula LeGuin and Philip Pullman as two of her favorite novelists, however her favorite changes with whatever mood she’s in.
Katherine Roberts lives in Ross-on-Wye, England.
