Synopsis
A little girl named Holly lives in a house that has a front door with a cat flap. But poor Holly doesn't have cat. One night, Holly makes a wish upon a star. She wishes for a kitten, but instead she gets a big surprise. It's a crash at her bedroom window sill—and gazing through the glass, she finds herself looking at the biggest, scruffiest cat she's ever seen in her life. "It's a mistake!" cries Holly, but Tom, the scruffy old cat, just gives her a big, crooked smile. She shoos him away, but Tom keeps coming back, day after day. He jumps around, and shows off, and follows wherever Holly goes. He's determined to become her one and only wish-come-true cat. This gentle and funny little story and its cheerful illustrations are sure to delight toddlers and beginning readers. Full-color illustrations on every page.

About the Author
Ragnhild Scamell was born in Denmark but soon found her way to England, where to date she has written a dozen chldren's books for a variety of publishers. She and her husband with their pet cats and English Sheepdog live and work in England's Kent countryside, near the famous cathedral town of Canterbury.
Gaby Hansen was born and received her art training in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has lived and worked in London since 1998, and has illustrated both school text books and juvenile stories.

K-Gr 2-When Holly wishes on a falling star for a kitten, she is unprepared for the big, beat-up-looking stray that lands with a crash on her windowsill. Claiming it was a mistake, she shoos the cat away, but Tom is undeterred and, over the next day, slowly worms his way into her heart. That evening, as the snow swirls around outside, she beckons him into the house, where she dries and feeds him, and he settles down on her bed. He has become her "wish come true cat." Colorful, average-quality drawings capture the feline's scruffiness, while his antics will charm readers. With the moral that wishes don't always come true as we expect them to, this is a pleasant-enough tale to share during storytime.
